Bookbinding Workshop (ages 15 and up)

Mondays June 16, 23, 30 & July 7.
Time: 6 to 8 pm.

Fee: $20 for each session. It is recommended that students attend all four sessions. The fee covers supplies.

Course Description: This four-part course will introduce participants to four categories of bindings: accordions, stab bindings, fold books and single-section books. Everyone will leave with lots of samples and the ability to reproduce them at home as editions, unique books or elaborate cards. The samples will serve to inspire and also to illustrate specific bookbinding techniques that save time and achieve a more professional result. We'll use a combination of authentic bookbinding tools and cheaper homemade versions. No experience required.

Instructor: Kate Battle has been making books for over a dozen years. She has studied traditional binding but feels most at home in the world of artist books, book objects, and alternative structures. She is also passionate about teaching (book arts and languages) and has had the opportunity to teach in various locations around Quebec, BC, and Japan. Part of the Quebec government Artists at School program, Kate regularly shows up in elementary schools with hammer and press in tow. She has helped thousands of kids make books from their stories or comics. (Kate enjoys working with grown-ups, too)

To reserve a spot for the course, stop by the store during opening hours to drop off your inscription deposit (20$ + tax). If you have any questions, email us at workshops@drawnandquarterly.com or call 514-279-2224.
