Launches! w/ Jonathan Goldstein and Conundrum Press

As most of you know we like to host launches here at 211. This week we are testing our strengths and pushing the launch-limits by hosting 3 nights in a row!
Prizes will be awarded for attending all three! just kidding, but if you do attend all three we could probably figure something out (free comic day was not that long ago)

TONIGHT!! Wednesday, May 13th 7pm, Conundrum Press Presents a Double Launch for PaperCut Heart and The Undertaking

Local publisher Conundrum press presents it's newest releases: two wonderful graphic novels. Please join us for a presentation and drinks.

- Ian Sullivan Cant's zines / illustrated poems are collected here into his first book, Papercut Heart. In deceptively simple pages, he tackles love, death and dreams with a wistful existentialism. Chia pets frolic with narwhals under banners that flutter with secret hope, Frankenstein's creation speculates on the nature of self, and a story written entirely in Morse Code weaves through silent statuary.

Ian Sullivan Cant was born in St. John's Newfoundland and grew up in the east end of Toronto. Now he lives in Montreal where he writes, draws, studies at the Zen Centre, and works for the yoga magazine Ascent.

- Michael Hind's first book, The Undertaking, is the saga of the Ward family and its oldest son Donald (D), who finds himself holding together the family undertaking business during the Second World War in Britain. Conflicts with D's artistically inclined siblings and the local vigilantes create a sort of D.H. Lawrence meets Six Feet Under. The Undertaking is a well-written portrait of a strained family learning to put itself back together.

Michael J. Hind is a Montrealer who has produced a body of comics work under the radar but never had a full book to showcase his talents. He has an art degree from Concordia University, has worked as an animator, actor, a journalist in Japan, and currently teaches in Montreal.

TOMORROW!! Thursday, May 14th at 7pm, Librairie Drawn & Quarterly, in Cooperation with Penguin Books, Presents a launch for Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bible! By Jonathan Goldstein,

We are proud to be hosting the launch of Jonathan's new book. The evening will include a reading and Q and A with Jonathan. Special guest appearance from Montreal Cartoonist and Wiretap star Howard Chackowicz!

Plus a slide show story about dating Lois Lane after she breaks up with Superman, illustrated with cartoons...!!

Seeking to revive readers' interest in the imperiled tome, Jonathan Goldstein shares the timeless stories of his favourite commandments, sins and smitings in Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bible!, a 320 page primer set in large, evenly spaced typed with nary a lick of Latin to be found. This trim, modern volume spices up the Good Book's rather drab narrative with the straight goods on Noah's pathological anger issues, David's comedic aspirations and Esau's brotherly concern for Jonah's junk.
Just ask Mary.

That's what she said.

Jonathan Goldstein is the award-winning author of Lenny Bruce is Dead. His work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, GQ, the National Post and The New York Times. He is well known for his work on the radio programs This American Life and CBC's WireTap. He lives in Montreal.
