I know the year has only just begun, but I think I have found my favourite book of 2011: Lauren Redniss's Radioactive: A Tale of Love and Fallout.

Full of beautiful beautiful images, Redniss illustrates the life of physicist Marie Curie and her husband Pierre. The book begins in black and white, with simple line drawings. And then, when the story starts to get interesting, we just get a huge BANG of colour and brightness.

Integrating drawings, photographs, maps, and photocopies with text, Redniss totally captured and trapped me within the fantastic world of Madame Currie.

I was sad when I had to leave.
Stunning, informative, fascinating. Good job world.
