Totally Radical, or Root is Root

I'm delighted to introduce the newest addition to our ever-growing theory section: the Radical Thinkers series from Verso Books, the "largest independent, radical publishing house in the English-speaking world." 70's counterculture connotations aside, an etymology lesson: the word "radical" comes from the late Latin radicalis, meaning "of or pertaining to the root (radix), having roots." (The root is root.) Radical thinkers then try to get to the root of things and to promote change from root causes. Verso's chosen radicals are left-leaning and include Hal Foster, Slavoj Žižek, Jean Baudrillard, and Theodor Adorno. Fittingly, the books are simply designed, almost pure in their aesthetics.
