Werner Herzog and the Making of Heart of Glass


A new book, Every Night the Trees Disappear: Werner Herzog and the Making of Heart of Glass, by director Alan Greenberg recounts the experience Greenberg had of being on set and working with Herzog on the haunting 1976 film Heart of Glass.

While there is a heavy mythology surrounding Herzog and every film he does - ex: the anecdote that Herzog hypnotized nearly all of the actors on the set of Heart of Glass for their scenes to create a constant eerie and disquiet atmosphere - Greenberg creates his own sort of personal mythology about Herzog; one coming from his intimate working relationship with the director and framed by the strangeness of Heart of Glass itself.
