Event this Friday! J.B. Staniforth launches The Deadly Snakes: Real Rock and Roll Tonight

You thought our rousing run of excellent events had ended with November's close, perhaps - but it hasn't! This Friday, December 7, at 7pm, join us at the store to celebrate the launch of local writer J. B. Staniforth's new book, The Deadly Snakes: Real Rock and Roll Tonight.

The book

Its author
J. B. Staniforth lives and works in Montreal. Between 2001 and 2011, he published ten issues of the acclaimed underground zine Querencia. He has completed a novel, a collection of short stories, and several major pieces of narrative journalism. He is a regular contributor to the Nation magazine, serving the Cree communities of the Eeyou Istchee/James Bay region, and has published writing with Salon, the Walrus, and N+1. His writing appeared bi-weekly, between 2009 and 2011, in Slice magazine’s online column “Slices of Life: Pictures, Portraits, and Profiles.”

The Deadly Snakes: Real Rock and Roll Tonight (which Staniforth began writing back in the spring of 2008!)  is the third installment of Invisible Publishing’s Bibliophonic Series and charts the rise and gentle fall of Canada’s greatest band. Through interviews with the band members, Real Rock and Roll Tonight tells the story of Toronto’s beloved rock and roll band from their chaotic teenage beginnings to their exquisite final act.

The author will read, some Deadly Snakes tracks will be played, and refreshments will be had! This will be so fun - the Deadly Snakes were the best! I jumped on that bandwagon late - back in the mid-aughts - really towards the end of their illustrious career, but listened to them with a newcomer's gusto. With songs like "I Want To Die", "There Goes Your Corpse Again", and "Gore Veil" (which is actually a Toronto street, but sounds terrifying), what's not to like?

Hope to see you on Friday!
