This One Summer - by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki

We just received the new graphic novel for teens by cousins Jillian Tamaki and Mariko Tamaki, This One Summer, and it looks fantastic!

The story follows two childhood best friends, Rosie and Windy, whose families always spend their summers together in idyllic Awago Beach.

As the girls near adolescence, the sanctuary of their summer haven is disrupted by family drama and teenage dilemmas.

Though the girls are faced with some difficult realities, their friendship sustains them through the sometimes brutal process of growing up.

Rather than using the traditional black and white or grayscale, the illustrations in This One Summer are done in a gorgeous deep blue shade which perfectly compliments the story. This book will resonate with teens and adults alike, as it perfectly captures that mysterious stage in between childhood and adolescence with all of its poignant, even painful, moments.
