The Best American Non-Required Reading, compiled annually by teenagers, high school students in California and Michigan, is always a hit here at D&Q. This year's volume includes contributions by Nathaniel Rich, Amos Oz, Janine di Giovanni, Anders Nilsen, Luke Mogelson, Kathryn Davis and Zadie Smith. Introduced by Lemony Snicket!


Best American Short Stories features work by Charles Baxter, Ann Beatie, T.C. Boyle, Joshua Ferris, Lauren Groff, Joyce Carol Oates and Karen Russell. Guest editor of this edition is Pultizer Prize winner Jennifer Egan, author of A Visit from the Goon Squad, The Invisible Circus, Emerald City and Other Stories, Look at Me and The Keep.
