What Everyone's Reading: September's Bestsellers!

September was a wonderfully busy time at the store, thanks to many book launches and events, and to you, our beloved customers! We thought we'd share the month's bestsellers with you, in case you felt the need to brush up on the literature of the moment!

Drawn & Quarterly publication: The Hospital Suite by John Porcellino

Mini-comics master John Porcellino chronicles his health struggles, from Crohn's disease to depression to OCD, with a matter-of-fact simplicity that disarms.

Non-D&Q graphic novel/comic: Megahex by Simon Hanselmann (Fantagraphics)

Simon Hanselmann's witch and cat couple, Megg and Mogg, veg out in their stoner lair/apartment, escaping dull reality (or attempting to) through weed dreams and by terrorizing their roommate, the hapless Owl.

Fiction: Chez l'arabe by Mireille Silcoff (House of Anansi)

Mireille Silcoff's debut collection deals with illness, alienation, fantasies of escape, and Montreal's pothole-ridden roads. Its mixture of wit and melancholy is irresistible.

Non-fiction: Bad Feminist: Essays by Roxane Gay (HarperCollins)

Already an inspiring and respected essayist on the Internet, Roxane Gay hardly disappoints with this riveting collection of pieces on popular culture, the intersections of gender and race, survival, and, of course, feminism. Everyone from Melissa Harris-Perry to Sheila Heti has praised this book, making it required reading for this fall and beyond!

Kids: Sisters by Raina Telgemaier (Scholastic)

Raina Telgemaier brings us a follow-up to her two previous bestselling graphic novels, Drama and Smile! Sisters explores the delights and frustrations of sisterhood, and is sure to be a hit with a wide range of book-and-comics-loving kids! Maybe some adults too...

Happy reading! We hope to see you soon.
