Classics Reimagined series!

Look at these beautiful new illustrated editions of some beloved classics: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and Grimm's Fairy Tales! Rockport Publishers have paired some of the most exciting contemporary illustrators with our favourite tales of yore - to great effect!

Olimpia Zagnoli's reimagining of L. Frank Baum's seminal Wizard of Oz uses the green and gold of Emerald City throughout Dorothy's fantastical adventure. Her minimalist geometric designs are a far cry from the original detailed illustrations and manage to recast the setting in unexpected ways.

As someone who has loved Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories since childhood, I must say that Sophia Martineck's drawings provide the perfect amount of quirky gothic flavour to these macabre mysteries! Fake mustaches, tweeds, darkened hallways, gentlemanly pipes, and dreadful fates are wonderfully captured by Martineck's full-page illustrations, which contain pleasing Gorey-esque echoes.

The Grimm's fairy tales have been illustrated countless times over the years, and so it is to Yann Legendre's great credit that his new images feel fresh and exciting while staying true to the tales' essences. There is something otherworldly about his palette of purples and turquoises that really catches the eye.
