Recap: MRB Fall Launch Party

Melanie & Sarah from MRB (Montreal Review of Books) were here to host their Fall Launch Party. Guests included Montreal based writers Bill Brownstein, Daniel Levitin, and Kim Thuy!

Bill Brownstein has been a columnist for the Montreal Gazette since 1987. He spoke about the recent publication of John Dunning's Memoir, You're Not Dead til You're Forgotten, which he began co-writing with the late Dunning as he became sick. John Dunning is probably the most successful Canadian filmmaker you've never heard of! Responsible for Bill Murray's debut in Meatballs, founder of Cinepix and mentor to David Cronenberg Dunning received a Lifetime Achievement Award at Fantasia in 2011.

Dr. Daniel Levitin is a professor of behavioural neursocience at McGill. He has written extensively including This is Your Brain on Music and, The World in Six Songs. His most recent book, The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload, distills research on memory from neuroscientists over the past several years and relays it for the lay person.

Kim Thuy won the Governor General's Award for her debut novel, Ru. She has also been shortlisted for the Giller Prize. Her new book, Man, is about families and cultures expressing love for each other through food. She spoke about the process that led her to writing the book and read a beautiful poem! All of the guests were extremely eloquent and informative and the evening was a pleasure. Thanks to MRB for putting on such a wonderful night!
