TONIGHT: Graphic Novel Book Club meets to discuss Kyoko Okazaki's Pink

Each month we host a Graphic Novel Book Club meeting, open to all, during which we hang out and informally discuss a featured graphic novel. January's pick is Kyoko Okazaki's Pink! We will meet at the 211 store TONIGHT at 7 p.m. Discussion will be hosted by Librairie Drawn & Quarterly's Kira Poirier. There will be refreshments and collective insight!

About the book:
From the inimitable Kyoko Okazaki, one of the pioneers of josei (women's comics) comes Pink. Don’t be fooled by the cutesy cover - this manga tackles some seriously heavy subject matter. The story follows the burgeoning romance between Yumiko, who juggles two jobs (as a callgirl and an office worker) in order to feed her pet crocodile, and Haru, a writer plagued by perpetual writer's block, who also dabbles in sex work. Okazaki manages to cleverly subvert the classical fairytale narrative with a brutally unsentimental account of life and love in the late capitalist world.
