TONIGHT: Graphic Novel Book Club #11: Gene Luen Yang's Boxers & Saints

Each month we host a Graphic Novel Book Club meeting, open to all, during which we hang out and informally discuss a featured graphic novel! Our pick for March is Gene Luen Yang’s Boxers & Saints. We will meet at the Drawn & Quarterly bookstore on Wednesday, March 18th at 7 PM. Discussion will be hosted by D+Q store staffers Helen and Daphné.

There will be refreshments and collective insight! We offer you a 20% discount on Boxers and Saints (the individual volumes or the box set) from now until the meeting date.

Boxers & Saints (First Second) are companion volumes from Gene Luen Yang, who broke into the comics world in 2006 with his award-winning graphic novel American Born Chinese. The two books, which can be read in either order, tell the stories of two young people on either side of China's Boxer Rebellion at the turn of the 20th century. Yang weaves two parallel narratives that offer a historical perspective rarely seen in North American literature and pop culture, while asking some gripping universal questions about identity, religion, and political struggle. Suitable for both teens and adults.
