Musical adaptation of Alison Bechdel's Fun Home takes home Tony Award for Best Musical!

Big news from last night! The Broadway adaptation of Alison Bechdel's seminal graphic novel Fun Home took home a Tony award for Best Musical—the highlight of a Tony ceremony that awarded women in every creative category. Pretty huge! Fun Home's composer Jeanine Tesori and lyricist/book writer Lisa Kron were the first female writing team to win in their categories.

Needless to say, we longtime Bechdel fans are thrilled! If you haven't read Fun Home, get over here and pick up a copy! We also highly recommend Are You My Mother, the follow-up or companion to Fun Home, as well as the collected Dykes to Watch Out For—the queer comic strip that started it all!

In case you missed it, Bechdel was awarded a MacArthur Foundation 'genius' grant this past September, for “changing our notions of the contemporary memoir and expanding the expressive potential of the graphic form”. We can't wait to see what she does next!
