Graphic Novel Book Club: Diary of a Teenage Girl by Phoebe Gloeckner

Each month we host a Graphic Novel Book Club meeting, open to all, during which we hang out and informally discuss a featured graphic novel. Our pick for September is Diary of a Teenage Girl by Phoebe Gloeckner.

Based on the author’s own experiences growing up in 1970s San Francisco, Diary of a Teenage Girl chronicles 15 year-old protagonist Minnie’s burgeoning sexuality. After losing her virginity to her mother’s boyfriend, Minnie continues to dabble in sex and drugs, documenting her adventures in her diary. Gloeckner’s work is refreshing in its frank portrayal of female sexuality, and imminently relatable even to those who lead a tamer adolescence!

We will meet at Librairie Drawn & Quarterly on Wednesday, September 16th at 7:00 p.m. Discussion will be hosted by D+Q publisher, Peggy Burns. There will be refreshments and collective insight! We offer you a 20% discount on Diary of a Teenage Girl from now until the meeting date.

Bonus: the first 10 lucky customers to pick up a copy of Diary of a Teenage Girl will get a free pass to the screening of the film adaptation! (Details in store.)
