Just in: Not Funny Ha-Ha by Leah Hayes

Not Funny Ha-Ha: A Handbook for Something Hard by Leah Hayes is a book about abortion. It is a book about that thing that is often so hard and so awkward for men and women to talk about in a real way that it can quickly devolve into polemics.

Author and artist Leah Hayes' book works to personalize abortion with individual stories of two women, Lisa and Mary. They each come from different social and cultural backgrounds, and each experience abortion distinctively.

Hayes' drawings are simple but warm, spare but comforting. Pages from the book show the world that the women live in, highlighting the objects, and spaces that fill it. The women experience inner change, but the outside world remains the same. It's a beautiful book, one that can also usefully serve as a resource for many.
