Last Thursday (May 26) we had the pleasure of hosting renowned cartoonist Chester Brown for the launch of his latest book "Mary Wept Over the Feet of Jesus." With a heartfelt introduction by D&Q's executive editor Tom Devlin, Brown then took to the stage to present passages from the book - keeping the entirety of the Libraire's packed house at full attention.
Presenting his own fascinating, and at times startling theses about biblical respresentations of prositution, Brown's book weaves a connecting line between Bathsheba, Ruth, Rahab, Tamar, Mary of Bethany, and the Virgin Mother herself. Serving as a sort of follow-up to the popular "Paying For It," "Mary Wept Over the Feet of Jesus"reassesses the Christian moral code by examining the cultural implications of the Bible's representations of sex work.
Following Brown's presentation was an insightful Q&A, as well as a much-anticipation book signing session that extended well into the evening. If you missed the chance to come to our event, please stop by the store on Wednesday, June 15th at 7pm for our Graphic Novel Book Club, featuring none other than "Mary Wept Over the Feet of Jesus."
