Yesterday evening (June 9th) we had the pleasure of hosting distinguished Montreal-based writer Madeleine Thien for the launch of her latest book "Do Not Say We Have Nothing." With an introduction by her editor Lynn Henry (publishing director of Knopf Canada), Thien's fourth novel brought in a packed crowd of her friends, fellow writers, and people in search of a wonderful book.
Choosing to read one of the most "positive" and uplifitng sections from the novel, Thien silenced the crowd with a passage depicting hope in the wake of protest. Set in China during, before, and after the Tiannamen Square protests of 1989, "Do Not Say We Know Nothing" is breathtaking in scope and ambition, even as it is hauntingly intimate.
Followed by wine, cheese, and a session of book signings, Madeleine Thien's reading was an absolute success. Thank you again to both Madeleine and Lynn for a wonderful evening! For information on the next event, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter, and keep an eye on our newsletter!
