Double Launch: Martha Baillie & Camilla Grudova

Join us on Friday, November 3rd for the launch of The Doll's Alphabet by Camilla Grudova and If Clara by Martha Baillie! The event will be taking place at Drawn & Quarterly's brand new location: La Petite D+Q, located at 176 Bernard Ouest.

THE DOLL'S ALPHABET by Camilla Grudova

Short stories from an unholy marriage of Angela Carter, Sheila Heti, and H. P. Lovecraft. Dolls, sewing machines, tinned foods, mirrors, malfunctioning bodies – by constantly reinventing ways to engage with her obsessions and motifs, Camilla Grudova has built a universe that's highly imaginative, incredibly original, and absolutely discomfiting. The stories in The Doll's Alphabet are simultaneously childlike and naive, grotesque and very dark.

IF CLARA by Martha Baillie

Daisy, an author confined to her home, her leg in a cast from hip to ankle, receives a parcel containing the manuscript of a brilliant novel about a Syrian refugee in North America. She's asked by its author, Clara, to pose as a fictional Syrian writer. Julia, a curator of installation art, has no idea that her sister, Clara, who suffers from a debilitating mental illness, has written a novel. In Julia's gallery, a pair of binoculars welded to a wall change Maurice's life. Perspectives shift, boundaries between art and life, viewer and object, are breached, and all of these stories unfold, collide and fall into place in a most unexpected way.
